508802 King Edward VIII – The Duke of Windsor King George VI Click on image for larger size
Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David (1894-1972), King Edward VIII, 1936, Duke of Windsor, 1936-1972, and Albert Frederick Arthur George (1895-1952), King George VI, 1936-1952. Exquisitely framed signatures uncommonly signed together, Edward P, by Edward, then Prince of Wales, and Albert, by George, then Duke of York, on an octagonally trimmed sheet. This piece is stunning. The kings' bold fountain signatures are triple matted in red and blue suede, with inlaid gold fillets, along with photographs from the British National Portrait Gallery collection and an engraved brass identification plate. The portrait of Edward VIII, made in 1936, is by Hugh Cecil; that of George VI, made in 1938, is by Bertram Park. The signatures are floated above the background mat, and the photographs are recessed from the upper mat, giving the piece a beautiful three-dimensional effect. The piece is finished with an ornate gilt wood frame. A History In Ink framed original. _____________
